Emergency Evacuation
In the event of an emergency, the following procedure applies:
a. In the event of a fire, an adult will signal with three blasts of a whistle, which is located in the pre-school office. A back up whistle is located in the pre-school kitchen. The fire alarm call points will be sounded.
b. Children and practitioners listen and stop their activity.
c. Practitioners will guide the children to queue at the safest point of exit:
i. The front door
ii. Fire exit at double doors in main room.
d. The most Senior Practitioner will count the children out with a second person leading the line quickly and safely to the assembly point. Other staff will position to the centre and rear of the line. A designated person will check the room for any other children. A designated person will sound the fire alarm at the back exit of Millfield Primary School to alert the school.
e. Assembly Points:
i. Through the double gates onto the Millfield Primary School playground.
ii. Out of small metal gate and along the pavement to the Cul-de-sac at the end of South Rise.
f. The most Senior Practitioner counting children out will grab the emergency bag located at the double fire exit. This contains first aid kit, emergency phone and contact numbers.
g. Emergency services will be called.
h. The register will be called.
i. Parents/carers will be contacted and asked to collect children as soon as possible.
j. In the event of a fire located at Millfield Primary School, a fire marshal from the school will come alert us of a fire so we can evacuate. Usual procedure will then be followed.
